The Central Regional Hub of the Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub, located at the University of Alberta, aims to build a network of scholars and community partners who will work collaboratively to: (i) advance the interests of Black entrepreneurs; (ii) promote engagement among research scholars and community partners in our network to better understand the entrepreneurship experiences of Black Canadian entrepreneurs; (iii) conduct research on experiences meaningful to community partners; (iv) develop strategies for knowledge translation and implementation in the community through iteration; and (v) reinvest funding directly in the Black entrepreneurship community through scholarship and creation of pilot programs developed based on research evidence and data. 

Position: Project Manager(Postdoctoral Fellow/Researcher) – Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub Qualitative Study – University Of Alberta, Canada

The Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub’s Qualitative Study Project Manager will be responsible for supporting the operations of this Canada-wide Qualitative Study. They will provide project management for all operational activities to ensure that the research, engagement, and knowledge mobilization activities run efficiently.

Specifically, the Project Manager will provide executive-level assistance in HR and finance matters, oversee research coordination, ensuring alignment of the project’s work plan, coordinate the Study’s virtual symposium, and contributing to the strategic planning of knowledge mobilization efforts.  

The Project Manager will also be responsible for providing support and guidance to the Study’s focus group Lead Facilitators and Research Assistant’s operating out of six (6) BEKH regional hubs across the country. They will oversee coordination of data coding and analysis across all hubs and support the Study’s Principal Investigator as required.

As necessary, the Project Manager will engage with project collaborators and BEKH community partners that align and enhance the research and community impact goals of the Qualitative Study. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, supportive, and growing body of Black scholars at the University of Alberta.  

Duties

  • Understand the scope, objectives, and deliverables of the research, training, and community engagement programs and provide managerial leadership to large scope research, training, and community engagement initiatives. 
  • Lead, assist with development, and implement the delivery of the research, training, and community engagement programs using project management methodology and expertise. 
  • Manage with precision matters of HR, Finance, and project work plan. 
  • Oversee and coordinate data coding and analysis activities across Canada. 
  • Provide support and guidance to project facilitators and research assistants across Canada. 
  • Supporting the project’s Principal Investigator as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Educational Requirement:  

  • PhD  

Occupational requirements: 

  • Demonstrable experience in research and/or community engagement with Canada’s Black populations in diverse and intersectional contexts. 
  • Experience with project management and planning. 
  • Experience with meeting management and leading virtual teams. 
  • Experience or expertise in entrepreneurship will be an asset. 
  • Experience working in an academic, training, community, or research setting. 
  • Ability to strategize and develop creative and efficient solutions. 
  • Adaptable, agile and technologically savvy; proficient use with MS Office suite, Google Applications, Asana, Slack, and PeopleSoft systems. 
  • Advanced capability with qualitative data coding & analysis software (e.g., MaxQDA). 
  • Experience with developing knowledge mobilization activities, focus group facilitations, and project management. 
  • Experience with ethics submissions, manuscript editing, and annual reports or related academic writing. 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. 
  • Demonstrated skills in data visualization, interpretation, presentation, and reporting (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills including strong ability to demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy. 
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills. 
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, editing, and proofreading skills. 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and attention to detail. 

Preferred Qualifications

Top 10 Online Work Opportunities in Canada

  • Fluency or near fluency in French would be considered an asset.  
  • Mastery of quantitative data analysis software (SPSS, R, or Stata) is desired but not required. 
  • This Qualitative Study is designed to generate a more fulsome understanding of Black entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in Canada.
